According to Tom Miller, a public relations expert from the U.S. Department of State, visuals have been gradually gaining more importance over the oral since the invention of the printing press (and perhaps even before!) Types of visuals in academic writing

Some challenges of incorporating visual content in your papers

Incorporating visuals can significantly enhance your academic work’s clarity and impact. However, it’s crucial to keep in mind potential challenges. Here is what you should consider to make the best out of visual content in your papers:

  1. Copyright issues

If it isn’t the diagram you created based on your independent research but an image you have found elsewhere, it can pose copyright challenges. Strive to find suitable public domain or Creative Commons-licensed images for your papers or seek expressed permission to use copyrighted content.

  1. Accessibility

Ensuring that visuals are accessible to all readers, including those with visual impairments, requires additional effort on your part. Remember that visuals should enhance, clarify, and illustrate but not replace your text.
